Embrace gingham this spring, says interior designer Michelle Gage, founder of Michelle Gage Interiors.

“This print tends to come out during the warmer months, but it’s a timeless staple with real staying power,” Gage says of this sweet checked design. “It pairs well with other prints and makes for great layering.”

Feel free to use it on pillows, throws, and even window treatments, like Gage did in the play space shown here. But gingham is certainly not just for kids. This print would look great blending into your living room or master bedroom.

Speaking of window treatments, Gage says this spring is the time for people to update their window treatments. Of course, even if you don’t have it, Any If you still have some hanging around the house, you’ll want to choose a fun style to keep things going.

“Sometimes you need a little bit of cover when the sun is bright,” Gage said. “Why not decorate your windows with cute prints to make them both beautiful and functional?”

If you’re handy with a sewing machine, keep in mind that you can also go the DIY route to create your own custom window treatments using leftover fabric you have on hand for an affordable upgrade.

Nothing symbolizes spring like sweet pastel colors. Specifically, say yes to yellow this spring. According to Corinne Back, interior designer and founder of Corinne Victoria Design, this season marks a major transition. She explains that butter yellow is the most popular shade of yellow these days, but personally she weaves a lot of mustard tones into her projects.

“It’s great for mudrooms, pantries, and secondary rooms to express your personality,” says Buck. Mustard is a good compromise for those who are generally drawn to neutrals but want to experiment with some colors.

In this living room, the mustard-colored sofa isn’t as bold as the bright yellow option, but it still adds a welcome pop of color to the gathering space.

texture touch

People are going all in on texture in their homes right now, and that will continue into the spring season, says Daniela Alilović, founder of Spaces by Dee.

“We are seeing a shift towards taupe, oak, travertine, and combinations of metal and other materials,” says Alilović. “I’m noticing that people are becoming more open to experimentation, moving away from predictable choices and leaning toward materials that add texture and visual interest to a space.”

Interior designers are noticing that bronze and chrome in particular are making big waves when it comes to the types of metals they choose for their homes. These finishes can always be slowly incorporated in the form of small ornaments. Shown here are small pieces of furniture such as brass parts and side tables.

Updated stone application

More intricate stone profile details are expected to become popular in homes this spring, Backshear says.

“You’ll no longer see homes that just feature bold veins, but accentuate countertop and backsplash profiles with specialized profiles that complement even the simplest of stones,” she says, highlighting examples like apron countertops and bullnose edges.
